Our Beginning
Lucuma Designs began in 1998 with a simple idea: to share the beauty of Peruvian craftsmanship with the world while creating meaningful opportunities for talented artists.
Founded by Don and Alessandra, an American-Peruvian team with complementary backgrounds in technology and visual design, Lucuma grew from a love of creativity, culture, and original craftsmanship. From the beginning, the goal was not only to build a business, but to do it with heart and help create beautiful products through strong relationships, and a little joy along the way
Why Beauty Matters
At Lucuma, BEAUTY has always meant more than what pleases the eye. We see beauty in the skill of the hands shaping each piece, in the living traditions passed from one generation to the next, in the natural world that inspires so much of our work, and in the relationships that make each creation possible.
We believe that in our technology-driven world, celebrating handmade beauty matters more than ever. Through the creativity and human touch behind every piece, we are reminded of our own humanity and of the power of our hands to shape our world in meaningful ways.
Working Hand in Hand
For more than 25 years, we have worked hand in hand with our artist partners to create thoughtful designs and exclusive collections that celebrate their skills and love for their craft. Many of these relationships span decades and are built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to excellence in craftsmanship.
From the beginning, our goal has been to create meaningful opportunities for our artist partners while helping traditional craftsmanship continue to thrive. In 1999, Lucuma Designs joined the Fair Trade Federation, whose principles have helped guide the way we work ever since.
Today, our work reaches more than 200 artists and crafters through 15 family run workshops. About 75 percent are women, many of whom contribute vital income to their households, helping them gain a stronger voice within their families and communities.

Every handmade piece creates a connection between artist and buyer, tradition and new ideas, and one culture and another. Through the products we share, the stories behind them, and the causes we support, we hope to open hearts, spark curiosity, and remind us all how deeply connected we are.

From our signature owl designs to butterflies and even the elusive bobcat, the beauty of nature and its creatures have always been an endless source of inspiration for us and our artist partners.
Our love for nature is reflected throughout our collections and guides us to seek more thoughtful materials, sustainable alternatives, and greener ways of doing business.
Since 2018, Lucuma Designs has been a member of the 1% for the Planet network, committing at least one percent of our sales to organizations working to protect and restore natural ecosystems.
