Percy Rojas, gourd artist

Born in Cochas Chico, Peru, Percy Rojas grew up surrounded by mates, the dried gourds long used in the traditional Peruvian carving art. A fourth-generation artist, he learned by watching his parents and grandparents transform humble natural gourds into objects of cultural storytelling.

Building on his family’s creative roots, Percy brings new life to the gourd through vibrant painting, playful composition, and contemporary design. Working with a small team of women artisans, he creates joyful ornamental gourds filled with birds, flowers, geometric patterns, and scenes inspired by Peru’s diverse landscapes. Each piece celebrates imagination and the enduring beauty of handmade art.
