Richard Chavez Artist Tag 3" (pack of 10)
Richard Chavez, master ceramist
Richard Chávez Quispe began learning ceramics at age thirteen from his older brother, Victor, whose guidance opened the door to a lifelong devotion to clay. Though born in Callao, near Lima, Richard’s family roots are in Moya, Ayacucho, a region celebrated for its ceramic traditions and ancestral Wari influence.
Today, Richard is known for finely crafted devotional and traditional figures, including nativities, saints, the Virgin Mary, churches, and scenes of Andean life. Each piece reflects his patience, precision, and artistry, especially in the serene faces, flowing garments, and delicate painted details. Using natural clays and mineral colors, sometimes applied with a feather for the finest lines, Richard creates ceramics that honor Ayacucho’s living traditions through one-of-a-kind works filled with faith, skill, and quiet beauty.
