Cute little birdhouses surprise us on occasion but are not regularly stocked and may not be pre-ordered. Like our other birdhouses, they have a 1 1/4" opening and may be functional for tiny, tiny birds, but due to their small size may be best displayed as decorations. These small birdhouses fall below our 6” minimum standard height and come in assorted designs that vary. Expertly handcrafted by Peruvian artists. Price is for one birdhouse.

Gourds Become Art

Nature starts the story, Peruvian artists complete it.

Gourds, relatives of pumpkins and cucumbers, grow along Peru’s coast and in the jungle. After harvest, they are sun-dried and brought into the Andes, where each one is carefully selected for its shape and size.

Artists first sketch each design in pencil, then carve it by hand with fine chisels. Using pyrography, a traditional technique passed down through generations, they carefully use fire to burn and shade the surface, revealing rich natural tones of caramel, brown, and black.
